Walking to dinner the other evening with two lovely ladies, I caught out of the corner of my eye something that ruined me. I knew what it was, I didn´t need a double take… it was commercial animation of Comcast Sportsnet.

I almost cried, I lept in and confirmed… there on satellite TV was game 6 of the Flyers vs. Capitals series. There was nothing I could do! I had to stay! I had to leave my German and Argentinian acquaintances to go on to a delicious dinner without me! I ate beer instead.

The experience, of being HERE, and seeing that game live moved me to the point of tears. The bartender at this place generously estimated that ¨maybe¨ one other bar in the country has that game. I don´t doubt it. Aside from the Sports Books at certain casinos in Managua, there is no sports coverage here aside from baseball and soccer. So unless I wanted to go to Managua and lay a  big bet to get them to turn on hockey… I was out of luck.

Until, of course, last night. I sat there eating my beer dinner and watching the Flyers inconcievably blow a two goal lead. What a tool I am! Furthermore, I had made arrangements for transport directly to the airport today—-

which I promptly cancelled, instead opting to (big surprise) stay put and watch a pair of Game Sevens live from the third world! Tune in, think of me, go Flyers! Tropical paradise can wait!
